How to Safely Load Furniture in Your Vehicle

Say you bought a nice, elegant redwood office table from a furniture shop several miles away from your home. You found out that the cost of delivery of such heavy furniture is exorbitant. Checking the dimensions, you found out that it can actually be carried inside your vehicle. However, how do you fit a large piece of furniture in your car without damaging it? Here are some tips on how to go about that you can use.

First, borrow, rent, or purchase an appliance dolly. For heavy and large furniture, use a piano dolly. Dollies are useful because they allow you to move furniture easily without having to lift them for long distances. Next, have the furniture placed in a box or wrapped in foam padding. If it is in a box, place some sort of cushion or padding along with it because these help prevent the piece from moving too much when in transit and protect the furniture finish from scratches. If the store does not provide any packaging and padding material, you can make do with old blankets.

If the furniture is modular, dismantle it before loading the piece. You will be surprised that the amount of space dismantled furniture takes is considerably compact. It will also be easier for you to load the furniture if it is dismantled. Do not forget the assembly instructions. For easier assembly, you can label the parts and pack them individually.

Finally, tie the furniture securely to the roof, flatbed, or cargo compartment of your vehicle, and off you go.
